Saddleback Recreation Flag Football
Flag Football Leagues
Saddleback Valley Recreation, part of Saddleback Valley Unified School District, offers flag football as part of its youth sports program. The focus here is on learning the basics of football and sportsmanship.
Sessions are 8 weeks and are offered in the fall and spring. Your child must attend on the tryout date. At the tryouts, coaches observe children’s abilities in various football related skills. Coaches later meet to draft players. This helps ensure that all teams have a mix of new and experienced players so they’ll be as evenly matched as possible. Siblings can be placed on the same team if they’re in the same division.
Coaches are volunteers, usually fathers of players. Games are overseen by SVUSD staff.
Teams ususally meet twice a week for practices, then have games on Saturdays. Games are all local since they’re playing against other SVUSD teams.
Volunteer coaches, assistant coaches and team moms are always needed. Players take turns bring snack.
There is a Flag Football Camp, for anyone wanting to practice some skills before the league begins.
