Riddle Me Treasure & Scavenger Hunts
This is a software program that you buy online for $19.95. You can download it and start using it immediately to create treasure hunts and scavenger hunts. I was a little reluctant to spend the money when I had no idea if it would be good or not, but I’m glad I bought it.
Treasure Hunts
They call these Riddle Hunts. First you go through a list of items that you might have inside or outside your house – things like a bike, a fireplace or a recliner. Check the items that you have available. Then you tell the program the age of the children, how many items you want on the list, and whether it will be indoors, outdoors or both. Then the program compiles a list of items for the hunt. Each item has several riddles to choose from. Some are very easy, some are more difficult, and some are cute rhymes. You can even add your own items and clues if you like.
When you’re ready you print it out. Each clue tells you where to place it. So the Clue #5 should be placed at the location which is the answer to Clue #4.
You can even go into the program when you have time, set up a list of items in your house and then wait for one of those days when the kids are driving you bananas. Then all you have to do is tell the program that you want a hunt with 10 items and print it out! They have a list almost 5000 clues and over 400 items, many of which you probably have around your house. If you use a random list every now and then, you’ll have many days of busy fun. Then when the kids get a little older, you can switch out the clues for more challenging clues.
Scavenger Hunts
There are eight different types of scavenger hunts, including objects, digital and travel. In the objects hunt, kids go collect items on the list from neighbors. The digital list includes items that kids need to take photos of. Travel lists ask kids to check off items they see while traveling. You can switch out which items are on the list and even enter your own.
