Ice Blocking
This is a great outdoor activity for a group of kids and/or adventurous adults.
You rent a seat that attaches to a 5-pound block of ice. Then you slide down a grassy hillside. That’s it. If you’re planning a party at a park, get a few seats and a few blocks of ice. This can be done in the winter or summer time. In winter the ice will last a little longer, but in summer the cool ice will feel great! At a price of a few bucks for a block of ice, you can afford to get enough to last all day.
I heard about this from ABC Ice House in Laguna Niguel, but other ice companies might offer something similar.
For a low-tech, low-cost alternative, try cardboarding. Same grassy slope with torn apart cardboard boxes. Sometimes the simplest things are the most fun.
Parks
Since I heard about ice blocking, I’ve been looking for good parks near me. You need a slope with grass on it, preferably without a street or other danger at the bottom. If you know of any parks that are good for this, let me know and I’ll post the information here.
Laguna Niguel Regional Park has a lot of nice grassy slopes. It’s at the corner of La Paz and Crown Valley in Laguna Niguel. It’s a beautiful place for a group picnic.
Hillcrest Park in Fullerton has grassy slopes that work well for ice blocking.
Fun Orange County Parks has listed a few local hilly parks that might work.
