It’s smaller and less expensive (and closer!) than the San Diego Zoo. The zoo’s founder stipulated that there must always be at least 50 monkeys at the Santa Ana Zoo. They also have exotic birds, big cats, camels and much more.

Train rides, a carrousel and a petting zoo make this zoo a favorite with the younger crowd.

Check their website before you go. Under the birthday party section there are scavenger hunts that you can print out and bring with you. You can also download audio tours to put on your iPod.

They offer educational field trip programs for students of different ages as well a Zoo Mobile that brings the animals to you. Although it’s intended for classrooms, the price is so reasonable that you might consider it for birthday parties too.

Birthday Parties at the Zoo

The Santa Ana Zoo is a great place for a kid’s birthday party or group event. They have four nice picnic areas to choose from. Admission to the zoo and train rides for guests are included in the price. If you want to have food brought in, they have a list of vendors on their website.

Free Day for Santa Ana Residents

Santa Ana residents get in for free on the third Sunday of each month. Be sure to bring proof of residency.
