Cub Scouts
Cub Scouts is the Boy Scouts of America program for boys in first through fifth grades, or 6 to 11 years old. Cub Scout Packs are large groups (typically between 30 and 100) of boys who meet regularly. A pack will usually have all levels of cub scouts and meet monthly at a school, church, or other location. Each pack is made up of dens. A den is a smaller group (usually 6-9) of boys of the same age. Packs associated with churches can incorporate their faith into their scouting programs. Packs associated with public schools usually try to take a broad approach to faith, since their members may include scouts of different faiths. Packs may differ in activity levels, size and many other factors, due to their adult leadership. You can join any pack you wish if they have space. Boys can join a pack at a local school, even if they don’t attend that school. Contact the Orange County Council to find a pack near you. Many packs conduct recruitment campaigns in September and again in May. If you’re planning to join in the fall, you might consider joining the prior spring in order to attend the Cub Scout Daycamp in the summer.
Cub Scout packs and dens are run by volunteers, usually parents of scouts. Parents are expected to attend pack meetings, and often den meetings (depending on the den) and to help out in some way.
