Nothing is more rewarding for children than spending time with animals. There a many reason why kids and animals just seem to go together. Animals hold a fascination simply because they are other living creatures. In that way they are obviously like us. Yet, in other ways they are very different.

Kids love animals right from their first experience with a teddy bear or stuffed animal. When they are a little older, they love to visit petting zoos and have the opportunity to get acquainted with farm animals. They learn that it can be a pleasurable experience to please an animal by petting them and feeding them. The animals are a little like them, and yet so different.

Petting Zoo

Petting zoos have farm animals, like chickens, goats and rabbits that kids can touch, hold and feed. They can learn how to be gentle with an animal and maybe get the animal to come to them for attention or food.

Pony Rides

For many children, their first experience with a large animal is a pony ride. They get to ride in a saddle on a pony while someone leads the pony around a track. It’s a thrill to get to ride such a big creature and maybe even give him a treat afterwards.

If you are having a birthday party or group event, there are many mobile petting farms where the animals come to you. If there are no permanent childrens animal farms near you, keep your eyes open for fairs and carnivals that may have farm animals available for kids to interact with.
